PERSONAL TESTIMONIALS

Sue Lifrieri, Pastry Chef.

Being a pastry chef for 20 years I had to find some balance between what I love to do and how to make it fit into a healthy lifestyle. I have been working out at gyms since 1983. Seven years ago I moved into a new neighborhood and met Leslie. We quickly formed a bond and before I knew it I was training with her twice a week. I always wanted to have trainer to teach me proper form and work on specific areas of my body. I was ready to take working out to a new level and to be pushed harder than I could have done on my own. What I expected was someone to hover over me while I was doing crunches, yelling, "Come on, give me 10 more reps." What I got was someone encouraging me to work to my potential and poking me in the abdomen to make sure I was using the right muscles. I expected to get stronger and leaner, which I did. I also became more graceful and poised because we did ballet and yoga on top of the weighs, squats, pushups and bench presses. I never even heard of core training and here I was doing an upper body workout while balancing on a bosu. Leslie always had the new pieces of equipment, exercise bands, weighted medicine balls, large inflatable balls, body bars and the bosu. I never knew what I'd find from session to session. I used to tease her about how she would purposely seek out new ways to torture me. It kept our workouts challenging and fun. Not only did Leslie help me work to my potential physically but I had a couple of work related injuries. Leslie was a huge support and we worked around what I could do and built those injured spots back up slowly. Leslie also taught me be about balance and forgiving myself. There were times when I couldn't make it to the gym to do cardio for weeks. Leslie encouraged me not to beat myself up about it, at least I was still doing my training sessions and that was something. I would be hard on myself if I went off my diet and ate chocolate or ice cream. Leslie was always talking about how you can have a treat now and then without feeling guilty. You work hard and can make allowances. It's all about balance. I am at a maintenance point now, as Leslie calls it. My body is in shape and if I go off track for a week or two I bounce right back. I am happy with my weight, endurance and strength, and at 44 years old I'm in better shape than I was in my 20's. I can hear her voice while I'm working out, keeping me in perfect form. Relax my shoulders, contract my abs and keep breathing. Leslie and I have seven years of history together. You can¹t spend that much time with someone so wonderful and who inspires you so much without becoming good friends. I miss having her a couple of blocks away. She will always be that encouraging voice in my head and near me in my heart.

Brenda Prusak, Certified Yoga instructor.

As a long time yoga practitioner and teacher I can only give Leslie high praise for her precise knowledge, sensitivity and the heart felt caring she brings to her work with each client. I've been personally inspired by her warm encouragement, energy and skilful understanding of how to set appropriate goals. You will learn much in a session with this teacher.

"Feeling taller in NYC" I have been practicing my newly awakened posture and feel much different. It is a huge shift to try to balance standing with my ribcage back. I find sitting easier, being a wider base of support, and have been trying to keep at it all day at the computer. It is interesting to not feel any muscle exhaustion but feel exhausted anyway just from the struggle against neuro-muscular habits. It was a huge awakening for me and I thank-you again for your watchful gaze and awareness.

Leslie meets you at the pace you set and keeps you on course constantly encouraging and reminding you of the progress you have made.  She knows how to make the training process fun and how to support clients in meeting their goals.  I worked with Leslie in preparation for my wedding and discovered not only the power of taking care of myself but also how not to be so hard on myself and to live life more in the present.  I still stress, get sloppy with my wellness routine, but knowing Leslie is here to help me gives me the confidence to continue to work on myself.  If you want the best of the best in fitness and wellness training, you must hire Leslie Salmon Jones.”

CLIENT SPOTLIGHT

Verna Myers,

I’ve had the privilege of working with Verna Myers for four years now and she has to be one of the most inspiring individuals I know!  Verna is a lawyer who specializes in diversity training for law firms globally.  Her scope of work takes her on the road weekly, which has the potential to compromise her sense of well-being and balance as she spends a lot of time traveling and standing on her feet.  In 1992 and 2003, Verna underwent two anterior cruciate ligament repair surgeries, which have proven to be quite the challenge for this exercise enthusiast!  When I first started working with Verna in 2004 she was feeling frustrated and limited in her lifestyle due to her knee injury.

Since I’ve known Verna she has overcome these obstacles and challenges with great enthusiasm and gusto!  Verna and I have a running joke that we definitely have a relationship full of “mixed emotions,” especially when I show up at her door at 7:30 a.m.  She’s usually quite enthusiastic when she makes her appointment but somehow half way through our workout she asks me, “remind me why I invited you here again?”

All joking aside, this gorgeous, positive, inspiring woman deserves to be in the spotlight.  This summer, Verna set a goal to ride the Pan Mass Challenge, which is a 190-mile bike ride from Boston to Cape Cod.  (She not only finished with flying colors but she took an hour yoga class on the beach the next day, which is another huge milestone for this powerhouse after resisting the yoga craze for many years!)

Verna says she’s in the best shape of her life in her late forties.  I just want to say a word of congratulations to you, Verna. Keep up the great work and YOU GO GIRL!!!

Susanne Goldstein,

To those in Silicon Valley, Susanne Goldstein is The Accelerator, a web strategy and information architecture guru with an amazing philosophy for social change. But to Leslie, Susanne is so much more. She is a champion who has overcome amazing physical odds in a relatively short amount of time.

Just three years ago Susanne underwent major surgery to rebuild her neck. Her injury was so severe that one doctor actually told her that she was one cough away from being a quadriplegic, and that she should go home and sit very still while she waited for a surgical spot. This was devastating news for such an active and vibrant woman.

After the surgery, Susanne spent a year and a half in rehabilitation therapy, feeling frustrated by how far she still had to go in order to get back to her formerly fit and athletic self.

If the massive surgery wasn't enough of a fitness setback, she was also suffering from Fibromyalgia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibromyalgia), which is a very painful and exhausting chronic condition. Although there is no cure for Fibromyalgia, she has recently taken great steps forward in managing the illness.

Things turned around when she met Leslie just over a year ago and started taking baby steps towards fitness. Although it was painful to get started, because of her neck injury and the Fibromyalgia, Leslie closely monitored her progress and made sure that they were on the right track.

Having someone that understands and helps you push through is the best. It's not a cookie cutter fit with Leslie,” said Susanne of her experience. 'She was amazing'.

Today Susanne has more energy and improved cardiovascular health. And although she's not finished her journey back to her original size and fitness level, she has seen amazing changes thanks to her work with Leslie."

"I'm not as disciplined as I should be," she confessed. Leslie's amazing at checking in on me and asking what I'm going to do today. When it's hard to keep motivated she really helps. I just wish I could bottle her!

One of the most amazing things Susanne has learned from Leslie is to believe in her physical capacity again.

"She so believes in you that you believe in yourself and you don't want to disappoint her, Susanne explained. "She just injects you with energy."

Although Susanne hasn't fully reached all her fitness goals, she has made amazing progress in coming back from such a debilitating injury and was even brave enough to wear a bikini during her recent trip to Mexico. Which is something that a lot of people can't say right now.

Way to go, Susanne! I am so proud of your success!
