With over 20 years of experience, Leslie Salmon Jones continues to pursue an active interdisciplinary career in health, fitness and dance in Boston and New York City.

Education in Dance and Health

A Toronto native, Leslie received her B.A. in Dance and Health Studies at the State University of New York, and her Fitness Instructors Certification at New York University. She was a scholarship recipient at the esteemed Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre in New York City as well as the London Contemporary Dance School. As a professional dancer, Leslie worked with known greats such as Judith Jameson, Bill T. Jones and Wynton Marsalis. She is a certified wellness coach, through the Wellcoaches Corporation,

Personal Training & Wellness Coaching Programs

Leslie understands the importance of incorporating wellness into all aspects of life and works with clients to create a well-balanced life. This includes developing mastery of one’s physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being through various disciplines and healing modalities such as deep stretching, breathing, strength training, meditation, reflection, nutrition, stress management and wellness coaching.  Formerly, at her studio in New York, she developed a wellness program called “Living From Your Core” based on various techniques honed through working with her personal training clientele on a daily basis.  Along with her husband musician, engineer and executive producer Jeff Jones, they created two fitness DVDs, Core Strength: back to basics and Core Power: radiate the energy within. She is a former lululemon Ambassador at the Prudential Center in Boston.  She currently teaches group core classes weekly in Lexington, and private sessions with Leslie can be scheduled as well.  Today she continues to divide her time between New York City and Boston.

Passion for Wellness and Community

Growing up as the daughter of Canada’s first Black chief of surgery, the late Dr. Douglas Salmon and former Metro Toronto councillor and civil rights activist Beverley Salmon, Leslie has been committed to bring about social change particularly in the wellness industry.  Her community outreach includes being a former consultant for the New York Knicks “healthy lifestyle clinics” that teaches self-esteem to youth.  She has developed and facilitated programs such as the S.H.E. Network Program (Sustaining Healthy Eating for women of color) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and a six-week SummerFit Program for at risk youth at Mass General Hospital, Boston.

She served as a board member for the organizations, Free Arts NYC for At Risk Kids, NYC an The United Nations Association of New York (UNA NY) and is currently on the Diversity Committee at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, in the Berkshires of Western MA.

Leslie has been a faculty member at The Omega Institute for Holistic Studies for the past 5 years.  She is a co-creator & co-faculty of the Omega Women & Leadership Intensives in collaboration with their Women’s Leadership Center in Rhinebeck NY.

Founder of Afro Flow Yoga

Leslie has been practicing and teaching yoga since 1991 and is the founder of Afro Flow Yoga™ which infuses electrifying dance movements of the African Diaspora flowing with a meditative yoga sequence of gentle yet powerful stretches. Deeply connect with the soulful rhythmic drums, energize your chakras, gain strength and flexibility and rejoice in the bliss of feeling renewed, grounded and peaceful! Afro Flow Yoga weekly classes, monthly workshops, retreats and teacher trainings are currently offered in Boston and New York.
